Record yourself keeping a steady beat on the instrument while you sing Kookaburra. 2nd Grade challenge: Use our ukulele rhythm (strum-strum-hit) that we practiced in class with the song on your own TWO instruments! For example: if I find 2 objects (a bowl to hit with a spoon and box of candy to shake), my rhythm might sound like this: hit-hit-shake! hit-hit-shake! 2) Many times we end music class with a Song Tale (a song that tells a story). GRADES 1 & 2 Film a short video featuring ONE of the following (and submit by Friday as an attachment with the Manatee Activity Form): 1) Sing your favorite part of "My Aunt Came Back" (do you remember this from music class???). Keep a steady beat (or pulse) while you say the chant (use a speaking/talking voice) "Engine, Engine Number 9). Can you also move your feet on the beat? We've done this chant in music class, too!
GRADES 3 & 4 Film a short video featuring ONE of the following (and submit by Friday as an attachment with the Manatee Activity Form): 1) Learn to sing "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." Begin the song sitting down, and then stand up when you sing a word that starts with "B." Stay standing until you sing another word that starts with "B." Keep switching between sitting and standing throughout the song (only with the "B" words!). If you sit and stand at the correct times, you should end the song sitting down just like you started. 2) Work with a partner or your entire family to build your beat keep skills (like in the song "Obwisana"). Choose 1 small item for each person (nothing round that will roll away!). Place your item in front of you on the floor. Say the word "grab" while picking up your item, and the word "pass" while placing the item in front of the person to your right. Stop and make sure everyone has a new item. Keep practicing (SLOWLY) until you can keep a steady beat! Play or sing ANY song and see if you can continuously pass your items on the beat. GOAL: Can you pass items to a steady beat for at least 20 seconds and send me a video? See if you can pass for an entire song just for fun! : ) NEED HELP: Is the tempo (speed) of your song too fast to pass? Try saying "grab-and-pass-and" to give yourself more time to move. CHALLENGE: Instead of just saying "grab-pass," make your moves tricker! How about "grab-pass-clap-clap?" or "grab-head (tap item on head)- pass-woo (shout!)?" You can even try "The Cup Game!": TO LEARN: https://safeYouTube.net/w/zbv5 EXAMPLE: https://safeYouTube.net/w/kdv5

NOTES ON THIS WEEK'S LESSON FORGRADES 3 & 4 (optional to read but may help clarify a few things): - DISCO SENSATION- Begin with the bottom left slide to learn about the history of disco music. Then, select the bottom middle slide to learn a few disco moves quickly (with the student video) or slowly (with the teacher video). Finally, select the top left slide and put it all together! -I LOVE THE MOUNTAINS and ABEBE- Follow along using the INSTRUCTIONS button on the bottom left side of the screen. -STAFF CHAMPION covers how to read the notes on the treble clef music staff. 4th graders should be familiar with these concepts but this will be new to most 3rd graders. Use the location of the note head (the black circle) on each note to give it its' name. The line notes (from bottom to top) are called E, G, B, D, and F (we say Every Good Boy Does Fine to help us remember the order). The space notes spell the word FACE from bottom to top. For an easy challenge, use screen 5. and learn the notes in the spaces. For a medium challenge, use screen 4. and learn the notes on the lines. For a super challenge, try screen 6. which combines them all together!
